Below is a clip featuring Dr. Oppenlander from a much longer presentation you can find on youtube. It addresses the question: "Is grass-fed beef really sustainable?"
I've decided to post the following clip featuring ex-hunting guide George Wuerthner on the environmental impact of livestock, since there is so little coverage of this kind of thing in mainstream environmental/ag circles. It was recorded by North West Veg in Portland.
George Wuerthner is a photographer, author of 33 books, and tour guide who writes and speaks on environmental issues facing the West, with degrees in botany, wildlife biology,
and range science.

Also called stock-free farming, vegan-organics is a system which avoids all artificial chemical products (synthetic fertiliser, pesticides, growth regulators), genetically modified organisms, animal manures and slaughterhouse by-products (blood, fish meal, bone meal, etc).
DIVA employs the word 'veganiculture' to reflect the integration of vegan-organics, permaculture techniques free of domestic animals, and the cross-cultural adoption of veganism as a dietary and lifestyle choice where possible around the world.
